A delegation from Donghua University (DHU), led by Vice President Chen Ge and Dean Li Jun of the Shanghai International Fashion and Innovation College (SCF), recently visited the University of Edinburgh to enhance their partnership in fashion and design education. The delegation, along with representatives from Shanghai's Changning District led by Hong Liu, Chairman of the CPPCC Changning Committee, met with Professor Alan Mackay, Vice-Principal of the University of Edinburgh and faculties.

During the meeting, Vice President Chen highlighted the successful collaboration between the two universities, which has been fostered through their joint institute, SCF. This partnership is built on the core pillars of art and design, sustainable fashion, and interdisciplinary innovation. Building on a decade of successful operation since SCF's founding in 2014, the discussion focused on refining plans for the college's future expansion and development.

A key topic was urban renewal, with all parties reaching a consensus to jointly launch cooperative projects centered on digital empowerment and green transformation, guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These initiatives aim to strengthen the contribution of the Sino-foreign partnership to regional economic development. This meeting further demonstrated the great importance that Changning District attaches to Sino-UK higher education and transnational educational partnerships.

The University of Edinburgh, located in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, was founded in 1583. It is the sixth-oldest university in the English-speaking world, Scotland's leading acad-emic institution, and one of its seven ancient universities. The Edinburgh College of Art at the University of Edinburgh is one of the largest and oldest art schools in Europe.

The Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF) of Donghua University was approved by the Ministry of Education in February 2014. It is a non-independent legal entity—a Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution jointly established by Donghua University and the University of Edinburgh to provide undergraduate degree education.

Among the six cohorts of graduates from the college, the rate of further education and employment has reached 100% for consecutive years, with the high-level employment rate exceeding 75%. Graduates have pursued further studies at renowned universities such as Yale University, the Royal College of Art, Imperial College London, the University of Edinburgh, University College London, the University of the Arts London, and Politecnico di Milano, or have secured employment at well-known companies like Estée Lauder and Benoy.

The college has built an international faculty that integrates the teaching requirements of both China and the UK. It has collaborated with internationally recognized organizations, such as Alibaba's Tmall Innovation Center (TMIC) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), to establish over 10 industry-education integration platforms. The Haipai Sci-tech Qipao, co-created by faculty and students, has been presented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for several consecutive years and was selected for national exhibitions, including The Great Revolution: An Exhibition of Achievements in 40 Years of Reform and Opening-Up. The college has carried out exemplary practices in the fields of sustainable fashion and smart wearable technology, winning multiple provincial and ministerial-level teaching achievement awards.
