Wonderful workshops from Edinburgh College of Art

On 28th April, Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF) successfully held two workshops at the Consinee Shanghai Center. Will Nolan and Anika Höppel from Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh, led the workshops separately.

The immersive English learning environment together with professional knowledge provides local high school students who are interested in Fashion and/or Interior Design a wonderful learning experience.

The workshops are like mini-courses, displaying how the course will be like in SCF’s daily teaching and learning. “It was very inspiring! I have never attended lectures like this.” said Tony, a high school student. “Amazing workshop. This helps me getting closer to Fashion Design. Just think outside of the box! ” said Emily, an amateur fashion design lover.

Without going abroad, students can experience the authentic project-based teaching content, which stimulates students to think independently and cultivate their awareness of cross-border cooperation.

Let’s quickly review the two workshops.

The Space Around you by Will Nolan

Getting to know the space around you, the Interior workshop encouraged students to develop their own understanding and awareness of interior spaces, like how the light, ceiling, windows will affect our body and mind. From the perspective of interior designer, the design of interior spaces connects not only our physical feeling but also our spiritual mind. During the workshop, each participants got a chance to share their understanding of the space and Will patiently gave everyone an instructive comment.

Design Taster Session by Anika Höppel

Creative shaping and silhouette, the Fashion workshop made a connection with the Interior one, encouraging students to draw inspiration from interior space of Consinee Shanghai Center. Participants were separated into five groups, each group chose a theme to design. Although some students had never tried pattern and cutting, their creative minds were inspired and their passion for fashion design were enlightened. The workshop fully showcased the joy of “Learning by doing.”
