Xuechang Leng is a Lecturer in Fashion Interior Design at SCF and holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Edinburgh. Specializing in colour application and spatial design, he has led practice-based research projects for healthcare environments across Scotland, supported by organizations including NHS Ayrshire & Arran. An active researcher, he has published on colour theory and placemaking, and serves as a committee member of the China Fashion Colour Association and an editor for the journal Colour. His work bridges academic inquiry and applied colour innovation in therapeutic and care settings.

Xuechang Leng is a spatial designer, colourist, and writer. He is currently a Lecturer in Fashion Interior Design at SCF. Xuechang earned his doctoral degree in architecture from the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA) at the University of Edinburgh in 2023. His academic journey also includes a period as a Visiting Scholar in Landscape Architecture at Texas Tech University during 2016. In recent years, Xuechang has undertaken extensive practice-led research and colour installation projects for healthcare environments across Scotland, funded by organisations such as Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland, Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities, and Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership. These initiatives include work at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital (Edinburgh), Hawthorn House (Glasgow), Orchard Grove (Glasgow), Riverside (Glasgow), Meadowburn (Glasgow), Riverbank Resource Centre (Stirling), Leuchie House (North Berwick) and the like. From 2024 to the present, Xuechang has also been working on a project for six care homes in Ayrshire, funded by NHS Ayrshire and Arran. As an author and co-author, Xuechang has a track record of publishing several journal articles and conference papers. A selection of his work includes: Complex colour and collaborative practices in the contemporary ceramic façade (2022), Colour here, there, and in‐between- Placemaking and wayfinding in mental health environments (2021), Powerful Red on Buildings of the Qinzheng Hall Complex at the Garden of Clear Ripples (2022). Xuechang is a member of the Environment Colour Study Group of the International Colour Association (AIC) and a committee member of the China Fashion Colour Association (CFCA). He also serves as an editor for the journal Colour (ISSN 2097-3284).
