Recently, the 4th Shanghai Art & Design Exhibition, themed “Light of Creativity, Lighting Up the Future”, officially opened at the Shanghai Art Museum (China Art Museum).

As one of Shanghai’s landmark cultural brand projects, the exhibition is among the earliest and most representative comprehensive design exhibitions in China, as well as an important platform for gathering global creative talents and promoting urban innovation and development.

At this year’s exhibition, a sustainable wedding dress created by the faculty and student team of the Shanghai International College of Fashion and Creative Innovation (SCF) of Donghua University was successfully selected. Presented on this iconic comprehensive design platform in Shanghai, it highlights the innovative practice of university design education in the field of sustainable fashion.

The selected works of this exhibition are divided into two major sections — Art and Design, presented through seven thematic zones. Nearly 300 guests witnessed the opening ceremony together. Featured in the “Clothing” section, the sustainable wedding dress created by the college’s team aligns perfectly with the exhibition’s concept of green design.

The creation of this sustainable wedding dress was inspired by a real-life love story connected by BMX cycling.Li Haoran, Chinese champion in BMX Street, and Li Li, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Yangpu District Cycling Association, fell in love through sports and are known as the “Steel Frame Lovers”.Invited to design their wedding attire, the faculty and student team deeply integrated the concepts of sustainability and sports aesthetics into the design.

The two gowns feature extensive curved designs, inspired by the shapes and trajectories of BMX ramps, symbolizing the sport that witnessed their love and embodying the designers’ wishes:“Life never stops, sports never end, and love lasts forever.”The collection made a stunning appearance at the “Infinite Heart · Fashion Journey” Eco-Fashion Show during the Olympic Qualifier Series · Shanghai City Sports Festival. The couple themselves modeled the garments, presenting a unique blend of romance and creativity in front of Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee.

The 4th Shanghai Art & Design Exhibition will run until March 25, 2026.The successful selection of the SCF’s work is a vivid reflection of its professional feature of “fashion innovation”, as well as a strong practice of university design education in promoting green fashion and serving social and cultural development.
